The Milwaukee women's tennis team is set to participate in the Horizon League Championships as the No. 6 seed. The Panthers will compete against No. 3 Oakland on Friday, April 25, at the University of Michigan's Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the match scheduled to start at 10 a.m. CT.
In their previous encounter on March 29, the Golden Grizzlies managed a narrow 4-3 victory over the Panthers, ending Milwaukee's six-match win streak against them. The Panthers hold a 13-6 all-time record against Oakland, with a 1-0 record in postseason matches.
The 2025 Horizon League Tennis Championships will be hosted at the University of Michigan's Varsity Tennis Center, a facility notable for its $6 million indoor and outdoor complex completed in 1997. The venue features eight indoor courts and 12 outdoor courts, providing ample space for an audience of 600 spectators.
Oakland's team is led by second-year head coach David Brown. This season, the Golden Grizzlies have a 7-10 record, after experiencing losses to Youngstown State and Cleveland State in their final two matches.
Looking back, Milwaukee's women's tennis program has one regular-season Horizon League Championship from the 2013-14 season and a 12-35 all-time record in the championships. Three years ago, the team reached the championship match. Last year, they were eliminated in the first round by Northern Kentucky.
The winner of the match between Milwaukee and Oakland will advance to face second-seeded Youngstown State in the semifinals, scheduled for Saturday, April 26 at 10 a.m. CT.
