Dr. Hannah Fry, an assistant professor of biology and sport and exercise science at Wisconsin Lutheran College (WLC), has been recognized as the July 2025 Featured Alumna. Fry began her journey at WLC as an adjunct professor in 2021 before joining the faculty full-time in 2022.

Reflecting on her time at WLC, Fry expressed gratitude for Dr. Allison Phillips, who played a significant role in nurturing her passion for biology and teaching. "When I was a student, Dr. Allison Phillips helped me develop my love of biology and always encouraged my interest in teaching," Fry said. "She continues to facilitate my growth and learning, despite being a professor myself now."

Fry also highlighted the importance of practical experiences for students at WLC. As a practicing physical therapist, she values hands-on learning opportunities and is actively involved in finding internship sites for senior students. "Nothing compares to practical application, functionally utilizing what one has learned in the classroom setting," she stated.

Discussing changes at WLC since her time as a student, Fry noted improvements in laboratory facilities. "The addition of the SPE lab and improvements to the anatomy and physiology labs are amazing!" she remarked, emphasizing how these resources give students an advantage upon graduation.

Despite these advancements, Fry affirmed that WLC's commitment to Christian education remains unchanged. "I always felt supported and encouraged in my Christian education at WLC and can attest that this mission has not changed in the slightest," she shared.

Fry also shared personal anecdotes about her life outside academia, including helping on her husband's family beef cattle farm where they married in October 2024.

One cherished memory from her student days involves participating in an Art Club sunrise painting outing at Bradford Beach—a departure from her usual science-focused activities—which she fondly recalls with friends even years later.
