World War II veteran Clarence Zahringer to mark 107th birthday at Appleton VA clinic

Clarence Zahringer, a World War II veteran and longtime resident of Sherwood, will celebrate his 107th birthday at the John H. Bradley VA Outpatient Clinic in Appleton on Monday, July 28 at 2 p.m. Zahringer served as a nurse in the Army Air Corps during the war, caring for soldiers stationed in England. After returning home, he married in 1944 and later attended barber school in Green Bay.

In 1954, Zahringer moved to Sherwood where he ran his own barbershop until he was over 100 years old. He also played an active role in local government, serving as supervisor for the Town of Harrison and helping to found the Village of Sherwood when it incorporated in 1968. He went on to serve as village president for two decades and continues to reside in Sherwood.

The upcoming celebration at the Appleton clinic will include cake and a presentation of a commemorative coin and letter from Secretary of Veterans Affairs Doug Collins. According to event details, Mr. Zahringer’s son Ron will attend along with other family members, friends, and members of his health care team from the clinic.
