The Appleton VA clinic will dedicate a new plaque and display in honor of John H. Bradley, the facility's namesake, during a ceremony that includes remarks from Department of Veterans Affairs administrators, elected officials, and members of Bradley's family. The new memorial will be located in a more visible area within the clinic to better recognize Bradley’s service.

John H. Bradley was an Appleton native who served as a pharmacist’s mate second class in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He is widely recognized for his role in the flag-raising atop Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima in February 1945, an event that became one of the most iconic images of the war.

Bradley received the Navy Cross for his actions treating wounded Marines under fire on Iwo Jima before participating in raising the flag.
