Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) is inviting high school juniors and seniors to apply for youth apprenticeship programs with We Energies. The opportunities are available only to MPS students, according to district officials.
Applications for the apprenticeships are currently open. Students interested in learning more can attend an information night scheduled for Tuesday, September 23, 2025, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the MPS Central Services Auditorium, located at 5225 W. Vliet St., Milwaukee.
The available positions include a Line Mechanic Intern role, where students will maintain power lines and climb electrical poles while learning about electric distribution, safety procedures, and related operations. There is also a Gas Technician Youth Apprentice position focused on maintaining equipment and troubleshooting natural gas lines used in homes and businesses. A Design Engineer Youth Apprenticeship is open for high school juniors, requiring 900 paid hours of work involving electrical planning and engineering concepts; participants will have the chance to design construction prints and observe their implementation on job sites.
The application process requires two steps for interested high school juniors and seniors. The final deadline to submit applications for all programs is October 17, 2025.
Students or parents seeking additional information can contact Emily Brown at brownek@milwaukee.k12.wi.us regarding the Line Mechanic program or Erin Cherney at cherneel@milwaukee.k12.wi.us for questions about the Gas Technician and Design Apprentice roles.
