Senator Ron Johnson has used his social media platform to criticize Democratic lawmakers regarding the recent government shutdown, expressing frustration over their actions and attributing responsibility to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and other members of the party.

On October 1, 2025, Senator Johnson posted: "Democrats just voted to shut the government down at midnight. If they were serious about avoiding a shutdown, they would have supported the House-passed funding bill or backed my Eliminate Shutdowns Act last night. There were two clear opportunities to keep the government open — https://t.co/QacivdwPyL"

Later that day, Johnson continued his criticism by naming specific individuals: "This shutdown is being driven by Chuck Schumer and the radical left. It is shameful and completely hypocritical because Schumer knows full well he is playing partisan games with people’s lives. https://t.co/0kJQRsCu45" (October 1, 2025).

Addressing policy disagreements related to ongoing negotiations, Johnson wrote on October 2, 2025: "I sure hope that no Republican member of Congress who has professed pro-life beliefs would vote to extend the “temporary COVID” enhanced Obamacare subsidies that fund abortion. That Democrat demand for ending the Schumer Shutdown should be an absolute non-starter. https://t.co/SXDB9tsoQN"

Senator Ron Johnson has represented Wisconsin in the U.S. Senate since first defeating Russ Feingold in 2010 with 51.9% of the vote compared to Feingold's 47%. He secured re-election against Feingold again in 2016 and narrowly defeated Mandela Barnes in 2022 with a margin of approximately one percent.

The recent government shutdown referenced by Johnson follows recurring disputes in Congress over federal funding bills and policy provisions attached to them.
