Milwaukee Panthers fall in three sets to IU Indy in Horizon League matchup

Milwaukee’s women’s volleyball team lost to IU Indy in straight sets during a Horizon League match on Saturday afternoon at The Jungle in Indianapolis.

Despite a season-high 12 kills and a .647 hitting percentage from Bella Lipski, Milwaukee was unable to overcome the offensive output from IU Indy. Lipski had 17 attempts, while Natalie Schmitz added eight kills. Josie Johnson and Milica Tomic contributed with 16 and 13 assists respectively.

IU Indy led the match statistically, recording 52 kills compared to Milwaukee’s 34. The Jaguars also outperformed in attacking percentage (.318 to .216), aces (6-0), assists (52-31), and digs (46-30).

"IU Indy was really difficult to stop today," said head coach Susie Johnson. "We were competing through stretches of the match, but we needed to put together a complete effort from start to finish and were just not able to do that today."

In the first set, Milwaukee hit .345 with 12 kills and two errors but fell short as IU Indy registered 21 kills with three errors for a .486 hitting mark, winning the set 25-19. Morgan Ostrowski led the Jaguars early with five of her ten total kills.

The second set saw IU Indy edge out Milwaukee in kills (13-12) and capitalize on four service errors by the Panthers. Defensively, IU Indy collected 15 digs against Milwaukee's eight and secured the set 25-20.

In the third set, IU Indy maintained its offensive pressure with another 18 kills, closing out the match with a 25-21 win despite four blocks by Milwaukee. The Jaguars recorded another 17 digs in this period.

Jillian Tippmann led all players with 15 kills for IU Indy. Setter Grace Purichia finished with a double-double—53 assists and 14 digs.

Milwaukee will play its next two matches at home against Northern Kentucky at the Klotsche Center, starting Friday at 6:00 p.m.
