Jamie (Valerio) Brock, a 2013 graduate of Wisconsin Lutheran College (WLC), has been named the college’s featured alumna for October 2025. Brock currently serves as Director of Residence Life and Title IX Coordinator at WLC, roles she has held since 2015.
Reflecting on her time at the college, Brock credits several individuals with shaping her experience. "That’s a tough one to answer because there are so many wonderful people who have had a big influence on me. Dr. Ned Farley was my advisor and is truly the nicest person on campus. He took the time to get to know me as a person. Even when my path led me away from anthropology, he supported and cheered me on. Adam Volbrecht '04 has been my mentor and has really helped shape my views on student life and how we can best serve our students while keeping God first," said Brock.
Brock encourages alumni and supporters to actively promote WLC to prospective students. "Tell prospective students about WLC - and more than just tell them, encourage them to visit! When I was a high school student, I absolutely was not interested in moving to the Midwest, but as soon as I visited, it felt like home. The people make WLC special, so bringing prospective students to campus to see how we serve and care for students is going to make a big impact," she explained.
For new students, Brock recommends getting involved in campus activities: "Go to WEB events and get involved! You will find something fun to do just about every night on campus."
She noted significant growth in housing options for sophomores: "Aspire: Our students love living there and we love having a building where we can house our sophomores all together!"
Despite changes over the years, Brock believes some things remain constant at WLC. "WLC still has the most wonderful, welcoming, and kind people. Our students are awesome, and our faculty and staff are all guided by the same mission for excellence in Christian education. 'Midwest nice' is so real, and I am so glad to get to be a part of it," she said.
Outside of work, Brock enjoys traveling with her husband Sean: "My husband, Sean, and I love to travel and find new adventures. We have been ziplining in the jungle in Mexico, jumped off cliffs and waterfalls in Jamaica, visited the fjords in Norway, and got married on the beach in the Dominican Republic!"
One of her favorite memories involves reviving a service day tradition at WLC: "Reviving WLC’s service day to create Serving Hands; Serving Hearts was one of the more rewarding things I did as a member of Student Senate. We were so excited to put what we had learned about Christian servant leadership into practice and give our fellow students an opportunity to get out and serve the community together. We launched a super fun campaign to hype it up and made silly videos to advertise it - complete with going in the tunnels and the pond. At the end of the service projects, we had a pig roast and end of the year celebration. Someone ate a pig eyeball and student bands played. Bonus fun: My junior year we had a petting zoo and the goats escaped!"
