A local popsicle shop called Pete's Pops gave away free dry ice to Milwaukee residents who lost power in order to keep their fridges and food cold.
Between Aug. 8 and Aug. 13, thousands of Wisconsin residents lost power due to several violent storms that passed through the area, TMJ4 reported.
"We stock probably more dry ice than anyone else around," Owner of Pete's Pops Pete Cooney said, TMJ4 reported. "We get our deliveries on Wednesdays, so we got a brand new delivery this morning."
Facebook reports that Pete’s Pops gave out over 700 pounds of dry ice and was in the process of ordering more as more storms and heat waves affected nearby areas.
"I'm so proud to see our communities coming together to help their neighbors in the wake of severe weather," Gov. Tony Evers said in an Aug. 13 tweet. "Stories like these from @PetesPops, who are helping keep food on the table for those without power, are what make Wisconsin great!"
TMJ4 reported that over 31,000 customers went without power and We Energies claimed it was the largest restoration effort for the company to date. As of Aug. 12, 175,000 homes had their energy restored out of 225,000 customers.
