Bob Uecker celebrates 50 years of being the voice of the Brewers.
Uecker, a Milwaukee native, commemorated the 50 years of being the announcer for the Milwaukee Brewers, and even threw out the first pitch in celebration.
"As a lifelong @Brewers fan, some of my favorite baseball memories over the years have been narrated by Bob Uecker," Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers said in a post to his Twitter account on Sept. 27. "It was a pleasure to join him this weekend to celebrate his 50th Anniversary as the voice of Brewers baseball. #ThisIsMyCrew."
Evers declared Saturday, Sept. 25, to be Bob Uecker Day to celebrate the 87 year old. Many players, coaches and coworkers told stories and shared memories of the so called Mr. Baseball and his career since he started with the Brewers in 1971. ESPN reported that the ceremony honoring Uecker featured many humorous stories.
Former MLB commissioner Bud Selig was in attendance at the ceremony, having been the one to initially hire Uecker when he owned the Brewers. Brewers Hall of Famers Robin Yount and Paul Molitor and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett were also present at the ceremony, according to a report from ESPN. Earlier in his life Uecker spent six years as a Major League baseball player with four teams.
