Bell Ambulance is calling on Milwaukee drivers to be vigilant and drive safely following recent car crashes involving ambulances.
A reckless driver rolled an ambulance, injuring the patient and two EMTs this week, according to FOX 6 Milwaukee News. Now Bell Ambulance workers are asking for drivers to be safe and pay better attention while driving.
"Every day, you’re helping people in their time of need. We do what we can to ensure that we’re avoiding these (crashes) at all costs," Adam Kuhs, deputy director of operations told FOX 6 Milwaukee News.
Last December, a parked Bell Ambulance was hit by a Milwaukee County Transit System bus. The accident injured a patient who was in the ambulance at the time and two EMTs, one who is still recovering from their injuries.
"Ambulances can be fixed," Kuhs told FOX 6 Milwaukee News. "People, on the other hand, that’s a lot more complicated."
Kuhs said that EMTs do everything they can do avoid accidents, but asks drivers to slow down for emergency vehicles, give them space and don't drive distracted.
"Whether it’s the radio, the phone or simply looking away for a second, it could be the difference with you connecting with a first responder’s vehicle and you getting home safely," Kuhs told FOX 6 Milwaukee News.
