The Milwaukee area economy has been boosted by various sporting events anchored by the Milwaukee Bucks NBA championship run in the summer.
Gabriella Bachara, a reporter with CBS 58, took to Twitter to discuss the impact.
Bachara wrote, “JUST IN: @visitmilwaukee estimates the total economic impact of the @Bucks in the playoffs and NBA finals brought in $57.6 million.”
Visit Milwaukee Director of Communications Claire Koenig said that the impact sports has had on the local community was beyond what they had hoped for.
"Beyond our wildest dreams," Koenig said. "To have over $50 million in economic impact, that is absolutely amazing and it's a huge testament to the way the Bucks activated the Deer District."
Koenig added that fans gathering to watch sporting events together had helped generate economic revenue.
The news comes on the heels of the Brewers making the MLB playoffs, in hopes that they too will make a deep playoff run that furthers the economic sporting revenue in the city.
The Ryder Cup also brought throngs of golf fans from Europe to Whistling Straits in September.
