The Green Bay Packers are scoring points with residents across the state given the organization’s generous ways.
“Our Green Bay Packers are Wisconsin’s team both on and off the field,” Gov. Tony Evers recently posted on Twitter. “Thank you Packers for giving back to our communities and helping ensure our kids have save places to learn, play and grow.”
All the praise comes as the organization stepped forward through its Hometown Huddle community outreach initiative to help build a playground at Butterfly Park in Milwaukee’s Metcalfe Park neighborhood. The outreach program revolves around volunteers and former Packers giving back to a community.
"The whole state of Wisconsin supported us as players, and to have the honor to come back and help different communities throughout the state," former offensive linemen Bill Ferrario told CBS 58. "I think it's an honor."
Former safety Marwin Evans, who played with the team from 2016 to 2018, added "this feels good because I'm from Milwaukee, so whenever there's a chance to give back to Milwaukee, I'm down for it."
Between the Packers and NFL grants, $50,000 was put toward the new obstacle course. The park has been without a playground since it burned down in 2019. The tragedy occurred amid a string of arson and vandalism incidents that took place in the area.
The new obstacle course sits adjacent to a new toddler playground that was built at the beginning of October in Butterfly.
"Just out here giving back to the community, helping them build a playground," said Marwin Evans, Packers alum. "It’s good for the community, give kids something to do during the summer. They can come out here and have fun, play around and just give them something to do."
