In less than 40 days, Milwaukee will be voting for its next mayor, and State Sen. Lena Taylor made an announcement in this regard.
"I had to follow my heart, plain and simple. I love the city and have worked my entire life to make it better. I see the promise and the pain of Milwaukee. I see a pathway to the city we can become, and I am unafraid to think boldly, and work with others to get us there," Taylor said in a Facebook post.
Taylor has announced that she will be running for mayor of Milwaukee. Taylor is also an attorney and former public defender, and she previously served as co-chair of Wisconsin's Joint Finance Committee.
Taylor was previously going to run for lieutenant governor of Wisconsin but decided to suspend her campaign last week.
Taylor previously ran for mayor and lost. She will face at least seven other people in the primary.
"I feel very, very good about where we are with our campaign. I was the first person to announce that I was going to be seeking the opportunity to fulfill the remainder of now-Ambassador Tom Barrett's term in office and we got off to a nice start, a running start, a great headstart. And I think that the work we have done over the course of the last couple of months has been really fantastic," said Acting Mayor Cavalier Johnson.
