As parents across the nation face a shortage of baby formula, a Milwaukee mother created a community Facebook page to inform local parents which nearby stores have formula in stock.

Samantha Wiegele came up with the idea for the Milwaukee Formula Parents Facebook page because she herself was having trouble finding baby formula, according to WISN 12.

"I have had a lot of trouble finding formula right now," Wiegele told WISN 12. "I thought it would be easier for me to find formula if I reached out to other people instead of driving around to all the stores."

The page grew virtually overnight, with parents posting information to help each other find local stores that have formula available for purchase.

"First and foremost, all the parents, you know, are also scared and want to work together to help it and not feel so much alone with it," Wiegele said. "Because right now, we're able to find a can here and can there, but I don't know what we are going to do if we can't find any anywhere."

Abbott Nutrition, which makes several popular formula brands, was subject to a recall which closed its Michigan facility. It is currently awaiting FDA approval before it can reopen its facility, WISN 12 reported.

With the facility potentially reopening in two weeks, it could still take six to eight weeks before the formula supply returns to normal levels.
