On June 20, the Common Council adopted a file directing all City departments and Cityrelated agencies to investigate methods of generating new revenue for the City. Today, to help jumpstart this process, we have emailed all City employees to formally ask for their assistance in brainstorming ways the City can raise new and additional revenue.
The Common Council will soon vote on whether or not to implement a 2% sales tax citywide, but regardless of the outcome of that vote, we must continue to look at ways to innovate and help keep our city fiscally sound into the future. One of the best ways is to listen to the employees who work daily to provide City services. Our employees know our programs and services in granular detail, and for that reason their thoughts and suggestions are invaluable and have the potential to spur new ideas that can allow us to generate new revenue and increase efficiency.
All e-mails will be reviewed, compiled, and shared with the Common Council on a regular basis leading up to this year’s budget process, and all suggestions will be kept anonymous. We can’t wait to review the forthcoming ideas, and thank our dedicated and hard-working employees in advance for their thoughtfulness on this issue.
