Vaccines help prevent childhood illnesses such as measles, mumps, chickenpox, and polio. Summer is an ideal time to ensure children are up to date on their vaccines and to schedule the physical exams required for participation in sports. All Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) begin on Tuesday, September 3. Ensuring your child is protected from childhood illnesses before returning to school is crucial.
Answers to many questions about vaccines can be found on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website or the American Academy of Pediatrics. Immunizations for childhood diseases are available to city of Milwaukee residents who qualify. Visit the Milwaukee Health Department Immunization Clinic Services page for hours, locations, and eligibility.
For children who are not immunized due to health or religious reasons, parents should speak with their child’s school nurse or school staff.
