The Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) is set to host its annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration on Saturday, October 12, at South Division High School. The event will highlight the theme "The Music that Unites Us" / "La música que nos une," and will feature a variety of cultural activities.
Scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the celebration is open to the public with free admission. Attendees can expect games and art activities for children, along with cultural displays created by MPS students representing Spanish-speaking countries.
Music and dance performances will be showcased by MPS students as well as the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra Steel Band, which includes MPS students among its members. The featured countries include Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Spain, and Venezuela.
Participating schools in this celebration include Alexander Mitchell Integrated Arts School, Allen-Field School, Anna F. Doerfler School, Casimir Pulaski High School, Escuela Vieau, Forest Home Avenue School, Greenfield Bilingual School, Hayes Bilingual School, Lincoln Avenue School, Lowell International Elementary School, Milwaukee High School of the Arts, Milwaukee School of Languages, Milwaukee Spanish Immersion School, Morgandale School, Obama School of Career and Technical Education, Rogers Street Academy and South Division High School.
MPS invites everyone to join in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month which began on September 15 and continues through October 15.
