Natalie Block set a new program record for the second consecutive day during the Milwaukee track and field team's participation in the Clark Wood Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky. Block's time of 13.14 seconds in the 100m hurdles not only won her the race but also marked the sixth time she has broken a program record this season. Her teammate, Kynnedi Malone, finished third with a time of 13.66 seconds, which is now the second fastest in Milwaukee's history.
Head coach Andrew Basler expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance over the weekend: "I don't recall there being a better overall regular season weekend for our program than what we saw the last three days," he said. He added that once success began, it led to numerous season bests, personal bests, top-ten marks, and program records.
Basler highlighted Block's continued excellence in hurdles: "Natalie (Block) continued her tear in the hurdles, this time in the 100mH." He noted that although wind conditions prevented her from recording a qualifying time for the US Olympic Trials, her performance remained impressive. Malone's personal best also earned praise as it improved her standing on the conference list.
Both athletes now lead their league in preparation for next week's championship meet.
In other events at the invitational, Anelise Egge secured second place in the 1500m with a time of 4:29.12—the third fastest in program history—while Katie Burns achieved Milwaukee's tenth fastest 400m time by finishing 12th with a mark of 56.44 seconds. Egge and Burns currently top their respective events within their league.
Coach Basler encouraged his team to maintain their enthusiasm as they approach the Horizon League Championships scheduled from May 3-5 in Rochester, Michigan: "Our team should be extremely excited coming off this strong weekend with the Horizon League Championships around the corner," he stated.
