Babette Burgersdijk, a member of the Milwaukee women's tennis team, has been named to the All-Horizon League Second Team. This announcement was made by the league office on Thursday afternoon. This marks the first postseason honor of her career at Milwaukee.
Burgersdijk has played in both No. 1 singles and doubles positions for two years, achieving four singles victories this season and 13 doubles victories, including an undefeated record in Horizon League regular-season play.
In addition to her athletic achievements, Burgersdijk was previously recognized as an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar Athlete and selected for several academic honors including the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, Horizon League Valeo All-Academic Team, and the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll.
Milwaukee will enter the Horizon League Tournament as the No. 4 seed, facing No. 5 Northern Kentucky on Friday at 11:30 a.m. Burgersdijk is also a finalist for the Herb Foster Sportsmanship Award.
The Player of the Year title went to Oihane Vicario from Cleveland State, while Jack Barton from Chicago State was named Coach of the Year. The Freshman of the Year award was given to Emilia Jarvinen from Oakland. Maria Oliveira from Youngstown State received the Herb Foster Sportsmanship Award.
The Women's Tennis All-League First Team includes players like Manuella Eloundou from Chicago State and Oihane Vicario from Cleveland State among others. The Second Team features Katarina Dukic from Chicago State alongside Babette Burgersdijk from Milwaukee.
Finalists for the Herb Foster Sportsmanship Award include Helin Alvarez from Chicago State and Filippa Frogner from Cleveland State along with others.
