The Milwaukee women's soccer team is set to begin its Horizon League play this week, facing Northern Kentucky and Wright State on the road. The Panthers will first compete against Northern Kentucky on Thursday at 6 p.m. CT, with the match available for viewing on ESPN+. On Sunday, they will meet Wright State at noon CT; however, no video stream will be provided for this game.
Milwaukee has a strong history against both teams. Against Northern Kentucky, they hold a 7-1-3 record since the Norse joined the Horizon League. The Panthers have shut out their opponents in seven of these matches. Last season, Milwaukee secured a 3-1 victory over Northern Kentucky during regular season play and won 1-0 in the league tournament championship.
The Panthers also have an impressive track record against Wright State, boasting a 30-10-6 all-time record. Although they lost 3-2 to Wright State in 2022, Milwaukee had previously enjoyed a seven-game winning streak against them.
Head coach Kevin Boyd has led the Panthers to significant achievements in his tenure. Under his guidance, Milwaukee claimed both the Horizon League regular-season and tournament titles last year. The team has won the regular-season title eight times in the past nine years and made their 17th NCAA Tournament appearance last season.
Northern Kentucky's team went 8-4-8 last year and was ranked third in the preseason poll for this year's league play. They start this week with a 3-5 record overall but have recently achieved back-to-back victories.
Wright State finished last season with a 6-7-5 record and begins this week at 2-5 after consecutive losses.
The Panthers are looking forward to continuing their successful run as they transition from non-conference play into league competition.
