Lynn Greb, the senior director of Milwaukee Recreation, has announced her retirement after a long and impactful career. Greb began her journey with Milwaukee Recreation in 1989, initially working with individuals with disabilities. Over the years, she advanced through various management levels before becoming the senior director in July 2015.
During her tenure, Greb was known for her dedication to recreation's transformative benefits. Her leadership saw significant enhancements in Milwaukee Recreation's offerings, including free and low-cost programs for all ages, scholarship initiatives, and the launch of Twilight Centers for youth. She also expanded the department's range of programs and outreach efforts.
A notable achievement under Greb's guidance was the reimagining of Milwaukee Recreation’s network of 52 playfields through an equity-based approach. This initiative prioritized projects based on factors such as neighborhood poverty rates and facility conditions. The "Dream, Build, Play" initiative resulted in ten major playfield renovations and plans for further community center construction and athletic facility upgrades.
Greb will retire on January 31, 2025, marking her as the tenth director in Milwaukee Recreation’s 114-year history. Her colleagues will miss her enthusiasm and leadership but expect her legacy to endure.
"Best wishes and thank you, Lynn!"
