MPS extends Thanksgiving wishes to its students, staff, and families as the holiday approaches. The schools will remain open on Monday, November 25, and Tuesday, November 26. However, they will be closed from Wednesday, November 27 through Friday, November 28.

During this break period, MPS encourages students to continue their learning at home. They suggest that children read daily for a duration corresponding to their grade level—10 minutes per day per grade level. For instance, second graders should aim for 20 minutes of reading each day while third graders should read for 30 minutes. Engaging in board games is also recommended as it can enhance reading and math skills while teaching patience and sportsmanship. Cooking or baking together as a family is another activity suggested by MPS to support reading and math skills.

For additional resources, families are directed to the MPS Reads webpage for book recommendations and the Hands On As We Grow website for tips and activities aimed at keeping children engaged with educational games and creative tasks.

MPS anticipates welcoming students back on Monday, December 2. At that time, only 15 school days will remain before Winter Break begins. Families are encouraged to set goals for perfect attendance in December as consistent attendance is linked to increased confidence, improved test scores, and overall student achievement.

The message concludes with well-wishes for an enjoyable Thanksgiving break while emphasizing the importance of continued learning during this time off.
