The Milwaukee women's cross country team participated in the Phoenix Open held in Green Bay, finishing fourth among ten teams. The Panthers scored 92 points, trailing third-place St. Thomas by 15 points. Winona State secured first place with 39 points.
Head coach Andrew Basler expressed satisfaction with the team's performance: "The majority of our group either were faster, or within 10 seconds of their times at this course a year ago."
Junior Anelise Egge led Milwaukee with a standout performance, winning first place for the second consecutive event this season. She completed the race in 21:39.5. Basler praised her preparation and noted, "She ran a full minute faster than she did at the same event a year ago and was not even pressed the last two kilometers."
Cailin Kinas achieved her second consecutive top-10 finish, placing eighth with a time of 22:32.4. Rachel Helm finished in 18th place at 23:03.8.
Assistant coach Jake Rilely observed significant improvements from previous performances: "I thought they executed the first 5k of the race very well, but I think with a few more races they'll be ready to compete for a League Championship when the time comes."
Hallie Hoger and Ally Schmitz completed Milwaukee's scoring lineup, finishing in 27th and 38th places respectively.
Milwaukee's next competition is scheduled for Saturday, September 21st at Indiana State's John McNichols Invitational in Terre Haute.
