The Milwaukee Panthers men's basketball team achieved a significant victory over Akron with a 100-81 win at the Fiserv Forum. This marks the first time in over two decades that Milwaukee scored 100 points against an NCAA Division I opponent during regulation play.
The game was part of the "MKE Tip Off," and it showcased a strong performance from Themus Fulks, who led the team with 23 points, seven assists, and five rebounds. Head coach Bart Lundy expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete against Akron, stating, "I want to thank Intersport for putting this on (the MKE Tip Off) and allowing us the opportunity to play here against a really quality Akron team."
Jamichael Stillwell contributed significantly with his seventh double-double of the season, scoring 17 points and grabbing 18 rebounds. Kentrell Pullian added 19 points, while AJ McKee and Erik Pratt each chipped in with 14 points. Danilo Jovanovich also made a return from injury, adding eight points in limited minutes.
Akron's Tavari Johnson led his team with 22 points but could not prevent their five-game winning streak from ending.
Milwaukee's offense was efficient throughout the game, shooting nearly 58% from the field and making 11 three-pointers. They also dominated rebounding with a decisive advantage of 46-28.
Coach Lundy highlighted key aspects of their performance: "The 11 3's in the first half – if we shoot it like that, we become really hard to guard." He also praised Jamichael Stillwell for another standout performance.
Despite an Akron comeback attempt that reduced Milwaukee's lead to five points at one stage, Milwaukee responded strongly with a series of stops and scores. A late dunk by McKee helped seal their victory as they closed out by scoring nine unanswered points.
The Panthers now prepare for two home games to conclude December, starting with North Central (Ill.) next Sunday at the Klotsche Center.
