The Milwaukee women's tennis team has been ranked third in the 2025 Horizon League preseason poll, as announced on Friday. The poll, which reflects the opinions of the league's seven coaches, placed Cleveland State as the favorite for the upcoming season.
Under head coach Mark Goldin, who is entering his second year, Milwaukee finished last season with a 9-12 overall record. The team secured a No. 4 seed with a 3-3 record in the Horizon League Tournament but faced an early exit after a close loss in the opening round. Despite this setback, Goldin's leadership saw Babette Burgersdijk earn Second-Team All-Horizon League honors and led to academic success for his players. The team achieved the highest grade-point average within their department and received recognition from both their athletic department and the Horizon League with the "Raise Your Sights" award.
Cleveland State concluded its previous season with a 14-10 overall record and was narrowly defeated in the Horizon League Championship after achieving a strong 5-1 mark in league play. This year, they are projected to lead again with 47 points and five first-place votes.
Youngstown State follows closely behind Cleveland State in second place. The Penguins ended last season at 8-13 overall but matched Cleveland State's league performance with a 5-1 record. They accumulated 44 points along with two first-place votes in this year's poll.
Milwaukee ranks third with 32 points, while Oakland is predicted to be fourth with 30 points. Northern Kentucky (21 points), IU Indianapolis (15 points), and Chicago State (7 points) complete the rankings.
The Horizon League men's and women's tennis championships are scheduled for April 25-27 at Ann Arbor's Varsity Tennis Center.
