Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) has reiterated its commitment to maintaining safe and positive environments for students and staff. The district emphasizes the importance of respect among students, families, and staff as a foundation for effective teaching and learning.

The district outlined visitor policies designed to ensure safety within MPS buildings. According to MPS, "The safety of students and staff is a top priority in the district. Because we welcome families in schools, we want everyone to understand the procedures for visiting MPS buildings. This will help everyone know what to expect and make visits go more smoothly."

All visitors are required to follow established procedures when entering school buildings.

Regarding concerns about student behavior, the district has set clear guidelines. "To protect our students, if anyone has a concern about student behavior, the behavior must be reported to a staff member and/or the child’s teacher or further action. No one should attempt to confront, discipline, or punish another parent or guardian’s child," according to MPS. The statement adds that disciplinary issues are managed through established processes described in the Student Code of Conduct.

The Student Code of Conduct is available in the Parent/Student Handbook on Rights, Responsibilities, and Discipline at mpsmke.com/rights.

MPS expressed appreciation for cooperation from all community members in keeping schools safe.
