Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference issued the following announcement on June 3.
One day after four Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) baseball student-athletes were named All-Americans by D3baseball.com, the same quartet received the same honors Thursday from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).
Benedictine University junior designated hitter Kevin Bushnell and Concordia University Wisconsin junior third baseman Sam Beers were named to the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-America First Team, while Aurora University senior outfielder Corey Vondra and Benedictine senior catcher Jack Surin were named to the second team.
Bushnell batted .342 while leading the conference in homers (17) and RBIs (57). The 17 homers were the second most in program history.
Beers, the NACC North Division Co-Position Player of the Year, led the NACC with a .442 batting average and also recorded 69 hits and 41 runs, including 14 doubles, three triples, and seven home runs. He also had 46 RBI and six stolen bases.
Vondra finished the 2021 campaign with a .410 batting average, eight home runs, six triples, 17 doubles, 65 runs scored and 56 runs batted in while also stealing nine bases. In the NCAA Division III St. Paul Regional, Vondra went 8-for-15 with four home runs (two grand slams), a triple, and 14 RBIs while scoring six times over the three-game stretch. He also walked once and was hit by a pitch.
Surin, the NACC South Division Position Player of the Year, finished the season second in the conference with a .441 batting average. He reached base in every game this season and finished with 23 doubles, first in the nation, along with nine homers and 53 RBIs. The nine homers tied for fourth in the conference and the 53 RBIs tied for third. Surin is currently playing for the State College Spikes in the MLB Draft League for draft prospects.
