The City of Milwaukee held a job fair, looking for more firefighters and police officers, WISN reported.
"This is, as I always say, the first step in the journey," Milwaukee police Inspector Craig Sarnow said, the station reported.
The police department hopes to hire 195 officers in 2022, Sarnow said. Recruiting began in February.
Recruits need to have very specific abilities including "having a desire to be a part of our organization, a professional and ethical organization, comprised of people of high character, committed to public safety, committed to engaging in the community," Sarnow told the station.
Recruits must also pass a variety of tests.
"We test people's vertical jump," MPD Academy instructor Todd Gray said. "So what we want them to do is to be able to potentially have to jump a fence."
Interested candidates can apply here, with a deadline of March 18, the station reported.
Starting annual pay is $44,800.60, increasing $59,734.22 after graduation from the Academy, the police department said.
