With most Milwaukee public high and middle schools now following an early-start calendar, instructors welcomed early-start students back to class on Aug. 15.
“We are thrilled to welcome our early start students and staff back to learning,” Milwaukee Public Schools Superintendent Keith Posley told FOX6 Milwaukee recently. “Whether it's in-person or virtual, the first day of school should always be a special moment in a child's life at every grade level. We share that excitement with our young people and our staff as we provide the best educational experience.”
For students who still follow a traditional calendar, classes are set to resume on Sept. 6 and will run through June 16, 2023. To date, 95 schools in the district still follow a traditional schedule, most of them being elementary schools.
Students following the early-start calendar will finish the 2022-23 school year on Tuesday, May 23, 2023.
Masks will still be required in all Milwaukee public schools, as the CDC still has the county at a high level for COVID-19; the FOX6 report said. Teachers and students are required to wear masks at least through Aug. 18, with the district set to make decisions every Thursday following CDC guidelines and updates about requirements and safety protocols for the following week.
