Branding it indispensable to the state’s overall welfare, Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers is encouraging residents to give back to the state’s small business industry this holiday season.
“Our small businesses are the hearts of our Main Streets and some of the best places to find one-of-a-kind gifts for everyone on your list,” Evers recently posted on Twitter. “This holiday season, remember to #ShopSmallWI!”
Evers’ burning affinity for the industry runs long and deep, with WKOW reporting this marks the second straight year he has designated the entire month of December as “Shop Small Wisconsin” time, with the goal being to entice more residents across the state to make local purchases.
With “two-thirds of every dollar spent at a small business staying in the community,” Evers said shopping small goes even further by supporting local jobs and benefiting the overall economy.
“Shopping small supports your neighbors, and that’s what being a Wisconsinite is all about," First Lady Kathy Evers said in a video message. Among other benefits of shopping small, local, she said that local businesses are also more likely to carry out all of their operations, including hiring, purchasing needed supplies and giving back to the community, in the neighborhood where they are located.
One of the ways anyone can easily find local products is by looking for the "Something Special from Wisconsin" logo.
