Milwaukee County Education: Which district had most students enrolled in schools in 2022-23 school year

Milwaukee School District had the highest enrollment among Milwaukee County districts, welcoming 67,500 students during the 2022-23 academic year, according to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51.9% of them were boys, and 48.1% were girls.

Data also showed that most of the students were Hispanic, representing 77.8% of the Milwaukee School District's total enrollment.

Among the 19 districts in Milwaukee County, West Allis-West Milwaukee School District ranked second in enrollment numbers with 7,095 students, while Wauwatosa School District welcomed 6,935 students and ranked third in the 2022-23 school year.

Milwaukee School District roughly covers schools within Milwaukee County, with its main office in Milwaukee.

In the previous school year, Milwaukee School District also had the highest number of students among Milwaukee County districts.

Nearly 830,000 students were enrolled in Wisconsin schools in the 2021-22 school year. This is a 0.85% decrease from the year before. In sharp contrast to declining public school figures, enrollment in charter schools rose 4.5% to more than 52,000.

In 2022, there was roughly one teacher for every 14 students in a Wisconsin classroom, compared to the national average of 1:16. AAA State of Play considered Wisconsin to have the 14th best teacher to student ratio in the U.S.
