The 17th annual MPS STEM Fair is set to take place on March 9, showcasing nearly 300 projects from 600 students representing 50 MPS schools. The event will be open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Baird Center on 400 W. Wisconsin Ave.
An awards ceremony will be held at 12:45 p.m., featuring the Tomorrow’s SHEroes in STEM award to recognize female innovation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The fair is made possible thanks to the support of GE HealthCare, with representatives serving as judges alongside MPS staff, retired educators, and others.
Dr. Abe El Manssouri, MPS Science Curriculum Specialist, highlighted the district's commitment to enhancing STEM education, providing opportunities for students to excel and prepare for future academic and career paths. MPS offers a variety of science courses, including Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate classes.
Community exhibitors such as the Zoological Society of Milwaukee will engage students with interactive displays. Additionally, students from various schools will showcase projects like a clean energy model for a future city and a "Trashion Show" featuring garments made from recycled materials.
Rebecca Nowak Gimenez, MPS Science Instructional Coach and STEM Fair organizer, emphasized that the event is a celebration of STEM education beyond recognizing project winners.
