The UWM Police Department and Hyundai Motor America will host a mobile software upgrade event from Thursday through Saturday, Sept. 5-7, in UWM’s Capitol & Humboldt UPark Lot at 4430 N. Humboldt Boulevard (Lot No. 30). The event will run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Dave VandeLinde, vice president of Hyundai Motor America, demonstrated how the antitheft software upgrade is done at a news conference on Wednesday. The software upgrade event aims to provide eligible Hyundai vehicles with anti-theft software designed to protect against theft methods popularized on social media. The event is free for all area residents who own or lease a 2011-2021 Hyundai vehicle with a mechanical turn-to-start key ignition. No registration or appointment is needed.
Eligible Hyundai drivers are strongly encouraged to participate in this free event to reduce the risk of their vehicles being stolen. An August 2024 report published by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety noted that the software solution is an effective theft deterrent. All attending Hyundai owners will also receive a no-cost steering wheel lock.
In conjunction with the software upgrade event, Hyundai is sponsoring the 8th Annual School Supply Drive organized by the UWM African Diaspora Council. Participants who drop off school supplies Sept. 5-7 at UWM’s Merrill Circle Surface Lot at 2512 E Hartford Ave. (Lot No. 12) will receive a free steering wheel lock.
