Dominic Ham's journey in college basketball exemplifies perseverance and dedication. Known for his tireless work ethic, Ham's efforts culminated in a starting position with the Panthers during his final season.

Ham's notable moment came on February 14, 2024, when he made his first NCAA Division I start. This marked a significant achievement for the former walk-on who began as a team manager. His lineage is familiar to many; Dominic is the son of Darvin Ham, head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers and former NBA player.

Reflecting on his father's career, Dominic recalls, "I still remember a lot of it – he didn't finish playing until I was eight or nine years old." Growing up around NBA players had its perks, allowing him to meet stars like Kobe Bryant. "It was amazing," he said about meeting Bryant.

Despite being raised in a basketball environment, Dominic initially pursued football before transitioning to basketball at Georgia Highlands College. There, he faced challenges including injuries and academic issues but persevered through them.

His connection with Vin Baker Jr., whose father worked alongside Darvin Ham with the Bucks, led him to UWM. "That's how I found out about UWM in the first place," Dominic explained.

Starting as a team manager during the 2021-22 season allowed him to stay connected to basketball while working towards joining the team as a player. "You have to pay your dues," Ham stated regarding his journey from manager games to earning a spot on the roster.

Dominic's hard work paid off during the 2022-23 season when he appeared in 11 games and maintained perfect free throw shooting. His senior year saw setbacks due to injury but also triumphs like breaking into the starting lineup against Cleveland State on February 14.

Ham emphasizes embodying Milwaukee's blue-collar spirit: "I want them to see what Milwaukee really is all about – that hard-working blue-collar mentality."

The Panthers finished their regular season strong with Ham contributing significantly before narrowly missing an upset victory over top-seeded Oakland in postseason play.

Reflecting on this near success, Ham shared optimism: "It's going to happen and I truly believe that... you have to lead by example."

Despite having famous parents, Dominic remains grounded: "We are all human beings – no one is greater than the other."
