The Milwaukee men's and women's cross country teams are preparing to compete in the 2023 John McNichols Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana. The event, hosted by Indiana State University, will see the men's team take on an 8K race at 9 AM ET, followed by the women's 5K race at 9:45 AM. The Panthers will be up against 22 other programs, including 13 NCAA Division I teams.
Milwaukee senior Aidan Sodemann was recently named the Horizon League Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week. Sodemann achieved a third-place finish out of 101 competitors at the Phoenix Open in Green Bay with a season-best time of 25:13.9 in the 8K race. This marks a significant improvement from his performance last year.
In their last competition at the Phoenix Open, Milwaukee's men's team placed three runners among the top six finishers. Their overall score of 61 earned them third place behind Oshkosh and Michigan Tech. Head Coach Andrew Basler expressed satisfaction with their performance, noting improvements over last year's results.
The women's team also secured a third-place finish at the Phoenix Open with a score of 68 points, narrowly missing second place behind Michigan Tech's score of 64. Cailin Kinas and Anelise Egge continued their streak of top ten finishes this season.
Assistant Coach Jake Reilly praised both teams for their progress since last year and emphasized excitement about future potential as they head towards league championships.
