The Milwaukee women's tennis team started their Florida trip with a strong performance in doubles play but struggled in singles against Connecticut. The match took place at the United States Tennis Association Center on Tuesday.

Milwaukee, with a current record of 6-8, won two out of three doubles matches against Connecticut, who have an 11-2 record. Despite this early success, injuries affected Milwaukee's singles lineup, allowing UConn to extend its winning streak to five matches.

"After a long delay in travel, we arrived in Orlando," said head coach Mark Goldin. "The team fought hard, earned an impressive doubles point, but fell short on singles to a strong UConn team."

In doubles competition, Emilia Durska and Elisa Rubio defeated Chloe Lomans and Isabelle Asenov at No. 3 doubles with a score of 6-2. Laure Razet and Giorgia Cavestro secured the second win by overcoming Isabel Petri Bere and Cameron Didion at No. 2 doubles with a score of 7-6 (7-3).

However, the Panthers did not fare as well in singles play. Honoka Yamashita lost her match at No. 4 singles with scores of 6-4, 6-2, while Sara Simonova was defeated at No. 6 with scores of 6-4, 6-3.

"Their coach had the girls playing hard," Goldin commented about Connecticut's performance. "And we are still dealing with injuries but looking forward to two more matches to improve before conference season."

Milwaukee will continue their matches in Florida on Wednesday morning against Morgan State at 7 a.m. CT.

Connecticut secured victory over Milwaukee with a final score of 5-1.
