The U.S. Senate has approved a resolution introduced by Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) to designate July as National Sarcoma Awareness Month. The measure aims to increase public understanding of sarcoma, a type of cancer, and pays tribute to Melissa Locke and others affected by the disease.
“I am pleased that my resolution passed the Senate in honor of Melissa Locke and the countless other Americans who have struggled with this life-threatening disease. I hope we can continue to increase awareness of this complex form of cancer that is diagnosed thousands of times each year,” said Sen. Johnson.
Senator Johnson has served Wisconsin since first winning election in 2010, when he defeated Russ Feingold with 51.9% of the vote compared to Feingold’s 47%. He secured re-election in 2016 against Feingold again, receiving 50.2% to Feingold’s 46.8%, and won a third term in 2022 after defeating Mandela Barnes with 50.4% of the vote versus Barnes’ 49.4%.
