Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with the theme "Sabores que Inspiran" (Flavors that Inspire) for 2025. The observance, running from September 15 to October 15, is part of a national recognition of the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans.
The district’s main event is scheduled for October 18 at Bradley Tech, located at 700 S. 4th St., from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, featuring performances, games, and activities for children.
According to MPS, the theme highlights the influence of Hispanic cuisine as both a reflection of history and a source of cultural pride. The district stated that food tells “a story of ancestry, migration, and traditions passed down through generations,” adding that these culinary traditions have contributed significantly to community identity.
The celebration will include presentations by district schools focusing on the cuisines and culinary heritage of Spanish-speaking countries. Organizers aim for these sessions to offer educational insights into diverse dishes and traditions across Hispanic cultures.
Additional features will showcase food-inspired art and storytelling by students and community members. These elements are intended to demonstrate how cuisine can bring people together while fostering cultural pride.
MPS described the event as “a joyous and festive expression of Sabores que Inspiran,” noting its role in uniting communities through shared flavors and experiences.
“This is an opportunity to come together to appreciate the vibrant tapestry of Hispanic culture through its flavors, deepen our understanding, and foster inclusivity.”
By marking Hispanic Heritage Month each year, Milwaukee Public Schools aims “to honor the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to a future enriched by the enduring legacy of Hispanic and Latino Americans.”
