2 more Milwaukee teachers pledge to teach Critical Race Theory in week ending Feb. 5 despite controversy

Critical Race Theory will be taught by two more teachers in Milwaukee, according to an online pledge from the Zinn Education Project.

No new teachers sign the pledge the week before. It now has three pledges from Milwaukee teachers by the end of the week ending Feb. 5.

They’re one of the thousands of US teachers pledging to continue educating students about the controversial Critical Race Theory, which explains racism is embedded in US culture and politics.

Comments from new Milwaukee teachers included “ALL STUDENTS NOT JUST OUR BLACK STUDENTS NEEDS TO KNOW THE TURTH, ALL EDUCATOR SHOULD WANT TO TEACHER THE TURTH WHATEVER YOU DO LET IT BE DONE OUT OF LOVE AND NOT FALSE WORDS” and “history has affects on the present day. It is important to teach about the past and how it affects our world today. This will create more understanding for all people.”.

Though the concept was first suggested in the late 70’s, it has recently exploded as a contentious issue between the American right and left in the last two years.

Many who signed the pledge are defying state bans on the teachings. Arizona, Idaho, Iowa, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas have passed legislation banning discussions about the US being inherently racist.

Other states, such as Montana and South Dakota, have denounced the teachings without passing specific legislation.

In an interview with The Washington Free Beacon, Ashley Varner of the Freedom Foundation accused the Zinn Education Project of providing “left-leaning propaganda to teachers.”

Joyce CableThe history of our country has been written by white, mostly males and consequentially is incomplete. Women and BIPOC individuals have been left out of our history. All people, including children need to read and learn about our past and see themselves reflected in those people. The full picture, the truth, will help everyone be included in the work of a society and community and be the best we can all be.
