CIVIC MUSIC MKE Awards Young Artists From Milwaukee High School of the Arts

CIVIC MUSIC MKE recently honored two talented young singers from Milwaukee High School of the Arts (MHSA) as the Young Artist Scholarship winners. Lex V. Crump, a junior mezzo-soprano, and Jae Carter, a senior tenor, were recognized for their exceptional vocal abilities at the annual competition for high school students.

Raymond Roberts, the choral director at MHSA, praised the winners, stating, "Their performances brought forth their exciting voices and their deep understanding of the art of interpretation and storytelling that true artists consistently display."

Lex V. Crump shared her enthusiasm for singing opera, expressing her surprise at discovering her talent for it. She described her experience with one of her pieces, saying, "I really love that one because the words are so beautiful, and it showcases a lot of my range." Lex also highlighted the value of her education at MHSA in shaping her passion for singing.

Jae Carter, on the other hand, spoke about his growing appreciation for opera and the emotional depth it brings to his performances. He mentioned his love for the message in one of his songs, calling it "a very beautiful song." Jae's dedication to singing with passion and heart was evident in his performances, earning him recognition at the competition.

Both Lex and Jae credited their education at MHSA for nurturing their musical abilities. Lex emphasized the importance of ensemble singing, stating, "In any creative aspect, an ensemble is so important." Meanwhile, Jae expressed his desire to continue studying music after graduation, reflecting on the impact of MHSA's diverse music programs on his musical journey.

As the winners of the Young Artist Scholarship, Lex V. Crump and Jae Carter received well-deserved recognition for their vocal talents and dedication to their craft. Their success at the CIVIC MUSIC MKE competition highlights the exceptional musical talent cultivated at Milwaukee High School of the Arts.
