National School Nurse Day is Wednesday, May 8! Thank you to all MPS school nurses for their vital role in our students’ wellbeing and success. When students are healthy in body and mind, they can focus on attending school and learning. By caring for children’s physical and mental health, school nurses play a key role in students’ academic success and their school attendance. In addition to helping students with sudden illnesses and first aid, school nurses assist children with managing chronic conditions. They help students, some of them medically fragile, with special care needs as prescribed by physicians. Care of a student extends outside the walls of the school. School nurses work to support families of students with serious health issues by connecting them to resources in the community. In addition to individuals and families, school nurses aid the broader school community by offering school-wide programs. Be sure to thank an MPS school nurse for their diligence, dedication, and compassionate service!
