Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) will provide free meals to children this summer at select sites across the city. All Milwaukee children aged 18 and under are eligible to participate in the program, which offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, though meal availability varies by location. Meals must be consumed on-site and cannot be taken off premises.
The initiative is part of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. The SFSP aims to provide nutritious meals to children during the summer months when school-provided meals are not available.
Additionally, individuals over 18 years old who are determined by a state or local public educational agency to be mentally or physically disabled and who participate in a public or private nonprofit school program during the regular school year may also receive free meals.
Meals are provided to eligible children regardless of race, color, national origin, age, gender, or disability. Parents and students can find their nearest meal location and check dates, schedules, and offerings at mpsmke.com/summermeals.
"We look forward to serving children in our cafeterias this summer," an MPS representative stated.
