The first day of school for Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) is scheduled for Tuesday, September 3, 2024. As the new academic year approaches, MPS has provided essential information to ensure families are prepared.

Families are encouraged to update their contact information through Campus Parent at mpsmke.com/parentportal or via the Infinite Campus mobile app. Accurate information is crucial for receiving updates about transportation, events, and weather-related closings. If any details are outdated, families should visit their school to submit current information.

For those needing assistance with Campus Parent, schools have parent coordinators available to help set up accounts and enter necessary data. Each MPS school has a dedicated parent coordinator responsible for organizing events and communicating with families.

Transportation details will be mailed to eligible students about a week before school starts. Families will also receive reminders via email, text, or phone call on the Friday before the first day of school. It is important that address and other information in Infinite Campus are accurate to avoid issues with busing schedules.

MPS offers free breakfast and lunch following USDA guidelines to all students on school days. This year, students will have more menu options with multiple lunch entrees available daily.

Parents are reminded to ensure their children are immunized before the start of school. Immunization records should be provided to the school. Medical waivers are available for children who cannot be vaccinated due to medical reasons; a note from a healthcare provider is required.

MPS has updated its visitor policy to enhance student safety. All visitors must use designated entrances, report to the office/security desk, show identification, sign in, wear an MPS Visitor Pass, be escorted within the building, and sign out upon leaving. Visitors are limited to two per student unless approved by an administrator.

The Parent/Student Handbook contains detailed information about school rules, behavior expectations, attendance policies, transportation guidelines, winter weather procedures, and family supports. Families are asked to review this handbook before the start of school.

To prepare children for Day One:

- Establish a routine by setting appropriate bedtimes and wakeup times.

- Plan outfits the night before.

- Gather necessary school supplies as listed on the MPS Supply Lists webpage.

- Encourage reading at home for both young children and older students.

Regular attendance is emphasized as crucial for student success. MPS looks forward to welcoming students back on September 3rd.
