We Energies is currently seeking high school juniors and seniors from Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) for its youth apprenticeship and internship programs. The company aims to train students as line mechanic interns, apprentice gas technicians, or design engineers while they are still in high school.
Applications are now open, and interested students can attend a Family Information Session on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at MPS Central Services Room 206, located at 5225 W. Vliet St., Milwaukee, WI 53208.
The available positions include:
- **Line Mechanic Intern**: Responsibilities include maintaining power lines and climbing electrical poles. Interns will learn about electric distribution, basic electric theory, safety protocols, and materials and operations.
- **Gas Technician Youth Apprentice**: Duties involve maintaining equipment, repairing leaks, and troubleshooting issues with natural gas lines. Apprentices will gain an understanding of how natural gas is used in homes and businesses.
- **Design Engineer Youth Apprenticeship**: This role requires working 900 paid hours where apprentices will learn electrical planning, natural gas design, and engineering concepts. They will also design construction prints that are implemented on job sites. Participants can earn up to 12 college credits transferable to Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC). This position is specifically for high school juniors.
High school juniors and seniors must complete two application steps by the final deadline of October 11, 2024.
