Milwaukee Recreation is set to host its annual Twilight & Treat event, a cherished Halloween celebration that offers a variety of family-friendly activities. The event will take place at Andrew Douglas Middle School Twilight Center on October 25 and Bay View High School Twilight Center on October 26. Participants can enjoy carnival games, trick-or-treating, arts and crafts, and other enrichment activities.
The event aims to showcase the safe and accessible programming provided by Milwaukee Recreation's Twilight Centers. Anthony Hagge, a supervisor for the centers, stated, “Our mission has always been to provide a fun and safe place for young people to go in the evenings.” He emphasized the importance of engaging with the community of Bay View through this initiative.
Twilight Centers offer diverse programs throughout the year to meet the needs of Milwaukee’s student body. These include late-night programs and workshops like photography and VR simulators. Hagge noted that they are "one of the latest drop-in centers for teens and youth in Milwaukee."
The centers collaborate with families, school staff, and community members to tailor their offerings. They gather input through neighborhood canvassing and discussions at parent-teacher conferences. Hagge highlighted their commitment: “We’re working to provide that safe place to allow young people to come to enjoy themselves.”
Upcoming events include Skate Nights at Andrew Douglas MS on November 8 and Bay View HS on December 14. The annual Egg-stravaganza is scheduled for April 11-12, 2025.
Twilight Centers are open to youth aged 10-18 but remain closed at North Division HS due to construction.
