On Veterans Day, the United States pays tribute to all American veterans from every war. The nation extends gratitude to each man and woman who has served in the armed forces, acknowledging their service and the sacrifices made by their families.

The observance traces back to November 1919 when President Woodrow Wilson announced November 11 as Armistice Day. This date marked the anniversary of the 1918 ceasefire that led to the end of World War I in June 1919. Over time, Armistice Day evolved into Veterans Day, which is now celebrated annually as a national holiday on November 11.

People are encouraged to express their appreciation by reaching out to veterans through calls or texts, sharing messages on social media, or supporting veteran organizations through donations. The military branches honored include the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard, and National Guard.

For further details about Veterans Day, individuals can visit the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' dedicated page. A Teacher Resource Guide is also available on this site for educational purposes.

Information about local veteran services can be found at the Clement J. Zablocki Veterans' Administration Medical Center. Opportunities for involvement are accessible via their Volunteer or Donate page.
