Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) is inviting community members to participate in steering committees aimed at shaping the future of school facilities through its Long-Range Facilities Master Plan. The district seeks involvement from MPS family members, staff, students, and other local residents to guide decisions about school buildings.
The district has partnered with Perkins Eastman, a consultant tasked with studying MPS buildings for this project. Interested individuals can find an interest form on the Long-Range Facilities Master Plan website. Applications for the steering committees are open until January 17, with initial meetings potentially starting in late January.
Selected participants will serve on either citywide or regional steering committees, meeting monthly to help shape the district's facilities plan. Regional committees will represent Central, East, Northwest, and Southwest areas of the district, providing localized input that contributes to broader decision-making processes. Some regional committee members will also join the citywide committee.
The citywide committee aims to consolidate insights and priorities from regional groups while addressing both district-wide and local needs. All committees will review data, assess challenges, and prioritize strategies to ensure balanced building populations across MPS. This balance is intended to support high-quality learning environments and educational opportunities for all students.
"The input of committee members is essential," stated MPS officials. "It will ensure that the Long-Range Facilities Master Plan reflects the needs, values, and aspirations of the communities that MPS serves."
