The Milwaukee Board of School Directors has announced the finalists for the position of Superintendent of Milwaukee Public Schools. This decision was made during a special meeting held on January 31, 2025.
"We are pleased by the number of stellar candidates who applied to be considered for the role of Superintendent of Milwaukee Public Schools," stated President Herndon. "We look forward to bringing the finalists to Milwaukee next week to meet with our stakeholders."
The selection process involved reviewing over 50 applications, from which 48 candidates were considered. The Board has now narrowed down the list to three finalists deemed capable of serving the Milwaukee community effectively.
The finalists are Dr. Brenda Cassellius, former Superintendent for Boston Public Schools in Massachusetts; Dr. Joshua Starr, former Superintendent for Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland; and Dr. Andraé Townsel, current Superintendent for Calvert County Public Schools in Maryland.
These candidates will visit the district on February 6th and 7th, 2025, where they will participate in interviews, school visits, and meetings with stakeholders.
Community members will have two opportunities on February 6th to engage with and provide feedback on these candidates at MPS Central Office located at 5225 West Vliet Street in the Auditorium. Sessions are scheduled from 1:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., and again from 5:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
During these forums, each candidate will be introduced by Board Clerk Dr. Tina Owen-Moore and will present their vision and goals for the district. HYA, the superintendent search firm, will moderate questions from attendees.
Feedback from community members will be collected via a QR code provided after each presentation for consideration by the Board.
