Milwaukee Public Schools is once again opening registration for its Summer Academy, offering a range of activities and classes designed to inspire learning among the city's youth. The program, available for students from kindergarten through grade 12, will run from July 7 to July 31 at selected schools throughout Milwaukee.

Summer Academy aims to help children maintain their academic skills over the summer break, preparing them for a strong start in the fall. The curriculum includes art, music, social studies, STEM subjects, early reading skills, mathematics, world cultures, and more. Certain locations will also provide Extended School Year services for students with special education needs and offer Montessori, bilingual, and English as a Second Language programs. Breakfast and lunch are provided daily, with afternoon childcare and recreation programs offered by Milwaukee Recreation.

For students in grades 6 to 12 needing additional support or seeking advanced learning opportunities, Summer Academy offers credit-earning classes. These offerings vary by location.

In addition to traditional academic courses, the academy features specialty classes that promote creativity and skill development across various interests. Options include biomedical science, cake making, computer programming, forensic science, musical theater, personal finance courses as well as band, choir and orchestra participation; physical education; and a study on insects.

Registration remains open until May 26. The program is free for residents of Milwaukee city while non-residents can enroll for a fee.
